6 Christian Books for Encouragement in Hard Times
Have you ever really needed encouragement in a time of suffering and had no idea where to look?
Sometimes it’s hard to find direction and someone who understands exactly what you are going through. And while finding support in community is extremely important, there is great wisdom and encouragement that so many have poured out into books.
I have found so much hope and guidance in these Christian books for encouragement. Don’t let yourself believe that you are alone! There are people who have walked through similar struggles and can bring you hope and guidance wherever you are.

When I was new in my faith, I struggled with some deep hurts, tragedies and brokenness. I had no idea how to wade through these waters. And it was in some of these books below that I found how to find healing, grow in my faith, learn to overcome in spiritual warfare and break free from chains.
I hope that one of these books will be a good place for you to start finding healing and breaking free of the chains in your life.
Christian Books for Encouragement in Hard Times
Breaking Free
For years after I gave my life to the Lord I struggled with the chains of my past. Brokenness, pain, shame and fear followed me everywhere. It was something I thought I’d live with for the rest of my life.
But this book taught me how to break through these chains. It guided me towards my freedom in Christ and helped me to understand not only that I was free, but how to claim that freedom and stand against Satan’s schemes to keep me stuck.
You don’t have to live weighed down by the chains of your past or your fear. If you are struggling to break free from bondage, whether it be bondage from your past or bondage from your current struggles and temptations, this book will offer tremendous hope and guidance to freedom.
Battlefield of the Mind
This book taught me one of the most powerful ways to find freedom in my thoughts. Her idea and battle plan begins with the notion to “think about what you are thinking about”.
This helped me to move from a passive stance of my thoughts dragging me into fear, anxiety and pain, to an active stance of healing and freedom.
If you are struggling with chains from your past or temptations, I really encourage you to check out this book!

Forgotten God
Do you experience the tremendous power of the Holy Spirit every day? Before I read this book, I viewed the Holy Spirit as just a small part of my faith. But this book opened my eyes to how powerful the Spirit is in our every day and every moment. Our culture has forgotten this power!
Francis Chan says, “If we woke up tomorrow and discovered that it is not true that the Holy Spirit lives inside of us, most likely our lives wouldn’t look much different.”
This woke me up to the need to get to know the Spirit intimately. And through this journey, I have found intimacy with the Lord and strength and freedom I never imagined possible!
Uninvited
Do you struggle with the fear of rejection? Lysa understands this firsthand and has immense wisdom and encouragement. We aren’t meant to live as if we are uninvited. We are called to walk in the full confidence that we are wanted and known and enough.
Satan wants us to feel rejected and alone. And he wants us to feel that we are powerless to find freedom. If you feel trapped in this, this book can encourage you towards healing and confidence in your worth in God.
Beauty for Ashes
If you are struggling with deep hurts from abuse in your past, this book brings tremendous encouragement, guidance and healing. Joyce Meyer lays out some powerful steps in breaking free of chains and brokenness.
It’s definitely a book to take your time and prayerfully approach each chapter and concept, but through this book I have found tremendous healing.
Believing God
When you’ve been hurt or struggling with something really tough, it’s so hard to believe God is working for your good and is going to answer His promises. This book was powerful and instrumental in helping me to understand how to trust God when there was so much hurt in my life.
I spent years believing in God and not truly believing what He said. He is working for your good. This book will help your faith take root deep in the fact that God is who He says He is and that He will be faithful to His promises to you.

These are just a few of my favorite and most faith-changing books. If you need encouragement, I really recommend you check them out.
But I also want to encourage you to reach out to someone. Sometimes a great way to do this is through reading a book together. It helps you to have the structure to open up and share your struggle while also moving forward in growth and towards freedom.
Will you check out any of these books? I’d love to know in the comments below 🙂
