Exposing Satan’s Lies About Your True Identity
Today I am welcoming Veronica Anne to the Standing Against Satan Series. I'm so excited about her powerful message to those who struggle to find rest in their true identity of Christ. Today she goes after the truth about who we, as women, are in Christ.
In our society today, it can be hard to figure out exactly where we as women fit.
Between the Mom wars that rage strongly on issues from homeschooling to vaccinations, and social pressures to look like a model for Elle Magazine, women are constantly bombarded with the pressures of being sexy but strong, independent yet charming, and carefree yet organized.
Really, we have every pressure to be perfect.
I don’t know about you, but I constantly find myself drowning under all of that pressure.
How am I supposed to have it all together when I don’t even fully know who I am supposed to be?
If there is one thing that the enemy of our souls loves to fight against, it’s our identity.

He loves to put doubt in our minds about who Christ is, who we are, and how we should live as a result.
But hasn’t that been how he has operated since the beginning of time?
From his first recorded interaction with humans in Genesis 3, Satan is spewing his lies to a woman-Eve. He fills Eve's mind with doubt about what God has instructed her to do. He convinces Eve that her identity should be found in her own strength and power. Satan convinces her that by eating the fruit of the tree of life, she will become like a God.
And he didn’t stop there.
Ever since then, he has sold women many lies just like that one.
If you dress this way, you will be seen as attractive and desirable.
If you get this degree, you will have job security.
If you marry that man, you will have social status and be taken care of for the rest of your life.
If you homeschool your kids, you will be a better Mom than others.
If you send your kids to private school, you will be able to take pride in their accomplishments.
If you continue exercising after having your kids, your husband will still find you attractive.
If you get that job, you will be successful.
And the rat race continues.
More and more pressure is placed upon you with each lie until you crumble under it all.
But dear sister, can I share something with you?
His lies always fall short and each of these pressures cause you to put your identity in the wrong place.

Whether in your beauty, your education, your husband, your children... Dear sister, putting your identity in anything or anyone but Christ will result in disappointment. Every single time.
The lie that Satan so often attacks my heart with is that if I just do enough, or be enough, I will be happy.
Go back up and read those lies again. Has he attacked your heart with any of those?
My encouragement to you today is this: stop striving.
The desire to do more, be better, and achieve more will never fill your desire for true purpose!
It is only by submitting yourself to Christ and what He says about you will ever do that!
I know what you may be thinking. Ok, so I get that all of those things, while good things, will never fill my need for identity or purpose. But what will?
How do I find my true identity in Christ?
Great question!
I truly believe that the antidote to Satan’s lies is a look at the gospel.
My dear sister, you were created in the very image of God. You were created for life, for beautiful intimate relationship with God.
But there was a problem. Because Eve succumbed to the lies of Satan in the Garden of Eden, sin entered the world. This sin has entrapped each and every one of us, keeping us from the perfect relationship that God desires with us!
But this didn’t catch our wonderful God off guard.
He had a plan of salvation from the beginning of time. He sent His Son, Jesus, as perfectly man and perfectly God, to this Earth. He had to learn, just like all human children do-to walk and talk. The Word of God Himself had to learn language. He had to have patience with His siblings, be totally obedient to his parents. He had to go through life, as we do, yet without sin.
Why is this important? Because one day, He would die in our place. His life would pay for our sin and this would only be possible if He had a perfect record before God.
After living His life in perfection, He went to Calvary where He was murdered on a cross.
While on the cross, God poured on Him the punishment for all of our sins. All of your sins, past, present and future.
And three days later, Jesus miraculously rose from the dead-forever destroying the power of death. FOREVER.
Because of His amazing love and sacrifice, upon accepting His free gift of salvation, your record is wiped completely clean.
When God looks at you, all He sees is the perfect, sinless record of His Son, Jesus Christ.
Sister, can I ask you to just stop and soak in the weight and beautify of this for just a moment? God Himself stood in your place so that you could have a relationship with Him.
Because of the perfect record of Jesus, we can now have open access to God through prayer and the reading of His word, the Bible. We are completely clean.
Does this do anything for your identity and purpose? Doesn’t knowing this completely blow away the lies of Satan in your life?
You are a child of God. The daughter of the King of the universe. He knows you by name and loves you eternally.
It no longer matters whether or not you are “worthy” of a magazine cover. Your true worth is found in Christ! God looks at you and says, “Beautiful!”
You are no longer trapped in the rat race of trying to be enough or do enough. Everything that needs to be said about you, Jesus already said.

You are loved more than you could ever know.
So, my dear sister, let the truth of what Christ has done, and who you are as a result, wash over you today.
Know that in Christ, you are a beautiful new creation like nothing this world could manufacture.
Live in the good of that today, knowing that your true purpose and identity could never come from how good of a wife or Mom you are, how successful you are at work, or how beautiful your body is.
Your true identity is in Jesus Christ alone.
Success!

Thank you that was perfect to read this evening!
Thanks for reading, Nadine!
Girl! I had to learn that when the devil starts whispering in my ear to begin repeating God’s promises to myself over and over again until the devil flees!
Ariel, I am with you on this! There are over 3000 promises from God in His word! Amazing! It gives us a great foundation to stand on!
Fantastic post. Satan is clever and knows where to attack. Thank goodness with God’s help we do not have to listen.
Amen! Thanks for reading, Maree!
A message we need to hear over and over again! Thank you for taking time to do that today!
What an encouragement!! Yes, the enemy can have us running ragged, thinking ourselves crazy…so much pressure. But glory to God, oh how wonderful to know our true identity is in Christ! Thanks for this powerful reminder.
I was just talking about this with a friend today!!!
Beautiful words of encouragement, Veronica. It’s so easy to let satan warp our identities, but they’ll never be able to fit into His mold because God has formed us for Himself. — Nice to meet you. 🙂 Thanks for sharing Veronica with us today, Sarah. ((hug))
Sorry, Nicole, I realized as I hit send that I’d written Sarah by accident. Please forgive me! ((xoxo))
This is great, Veronica! I’ve fallen prey to many of the enemy’s lies, myself, but the truth of God’s Word always brings me back to reality. I’m adding the link to this post to my Wrap Up Post for the series I’ve been doing on A Woman’s Worth! Such great truth here! Blessings!
Thank you for sharing such encouragement. The dilemma I find is that it people so readily reinforce the ways we look for worth Apart from Christ. We so need to preach this to ourselves every day.
Many of those same lies play in my mind as well. The answer always seems to be “do more, do this, do that.” When in reality it’s like you said to rest in God and believe that he already sees us perfectly…through Jesus thank you for this!
This is awesome! I struggled with my identity for sooo long until Christ showed me who I really am. So thank you!
Nicole so did I! It is amazing when we are finally able to see who we are in Christ. It changes everything! Thanks for reading!
Excellent post, Veronica! I’ve heard many of the lies from the enemy you mention, and I appreciate the truths you share here. Visiting from #saltandlight linkup.
So glad you were encouraged, Sarah!
