Scriptures for Your Children’s Protection
Do you pray Scriptures for your children’s protection, specifically and fervently? This is something I am seeking to grow in.
I do believe that specific prayer, especially when using Scripture is a powerful way to bless our family and grow in the Lord.
Today we are going to dive into the topic of our children’s protection. As mamas, this is tough – we would do anything to protect our children! But we can’t do everything and so we have to trust the God who loves them even more than we do. We have to surrender our grip in prayer and trust and in doing so we can have faith that God will care for our children.

A Prayer for You Children’s Protection
Lord, I come to You today and surrender my children into Your loving arms. Right now I specifically surrender [child’s name]. I trust that Your protection will cover him/her and keep him/her safe. Lord, I pray right now that You would be a refuge to [child’s name]. I pray that their hearts would seek You out as this place of refuge. That they would call out to You in their trouble or distress. Let them be confident that You are this hiding place and refuge. I pray that you would strengthen [child’s name] in the trials that he/she walks through. Lord let me be a parent who listens to You clearly. Give me wisdom in how to discipline and teach my children so that they can come to know You and Your ways. I pray not only for my motherhood but for [husband’s name]’s fatherhood. Let him be a father who leads our children to You and encourages and blesses them. Lord, I know that You are watching over [child’s name] and I thank you for this. You are good and I trust that Your plan is good. Thwart any plans of the enemy that aim after my children and surround them with Your Spirit, Your angel’s and with Your protection. In Jesus Name, Amen.
As you pray Scripture over your children’s protection, I hope that You can find peace in that surrender.
What Protection Looks Like
I have long struggled with the idea of what God’s protection truly means. I’ve been through loss and grief and trauma and wondered how on earth can I pray for protection – for myself, let alone my children?!
Slowly, over the past several years, God has drawn my heart to His and taught me more about His loving protection. He has taught me about surrender and the power of prayer.
I often think protection looks like comfort, ease and physical safety, and sometimes it does. But sometimes we face trials and brokenness and loss and yet God’s hand of protection is still with us then.
Learning how to see God’s protection and how to ask for it for our families is something that you can join me in. I am always learning and growing in this.
Some of the verses below will describe God’s powerful protection and what it looks like.
It can look like strengthening us where we are, it can look like wisdom and growing in our understanding of the Lord. It can also look like safety and deliverance. It can be a deeper and powerful relationship with our Father. It can look like angels watching over us or our children.
God’s protection is so much bigger than we can fathom. So ask Him to show you how to pray for it in big and bold ways today.
Surrender to God’s Will
Ultimately, as we trust God’s will for us is truly good, we can begin to learn to surrender to His will no matter our circumstances.
This was huge for me. The biggest question I’ve faced is: how can God’s will be good if there is so much pain? But there is beauty in brokenness and God’s glory and comfort will shine to us when things aren’t looking so good.
We have to trust that no matter what we see directly before us, that God’s plan is good and perfect. That He is working for our good, not just His or someone else’s.
As you pray over your children’s protection, remember that God has a plan for each of their lives – for their good. He knows what is best. He sees what we don’t.
And because of this, we can entrust them into His loving arms.
The Power of Prayer
Do my prayers actually make a difference?
I’ve wondered this many times. If God has a plan and His plan is perfect, why pray?
But Scripture tells us to pray over and over again.
And I think there are many reasons to pray aside from changing God’s mind. BUT I also think that our prayers do make a difference. I think our prayers can change things.
Here are some of the reasons we should pray. Prayer leads us towards:
- Obedience to God
- Directs our thoughts to Him
- True peace
- Fights against Spiritual Warfare
- Fills our minds & hearts with Scripture
- We can invite the Holy Spirit in
- Practice gratitude and surrender
This list could go on.
In prayer one of the biggest things that changes is our own hearts. God shapes and molds us to be more like Him, to see more like Him and to bring us peace no matter our circumstances.
Prayer is powerful in more ways than one. So be sure to stand firm in fervent prayer, use the Word to pray and pray in thanksgiving often. God will move when you do.
