Why is Family Morning Prayer Important?

Starting our day with prayer is powerful. And praying together as a family can do many things.

When we open our days with family morning prayer time we:

• Develop a sense of family unity
• Seek out the Lord’s direction for your family
• Teach our children to come to the Lord before all else
• Surrender our own hearts to the Lord daily
• Grow in our faith & watch the Lord work in the lives of our children

Spending time as a family in prayer will not only impact your heart and your family as a whole but will build a foundation of prayer and coming before the Lord with your children. It will teach them of important biblical foundations such as rejoicing always, gratitude, joy and surrender.

How to Pray as a Family in the Morning

Taking the time to pray as a family in the morning can be tough. Depending on your family’s schedules with work, school and activities, it might be hard to find a time when you are all together. 

Don’t let this discourage you from this powerful habit of praying together. 

My husband leaves for work before the kids are up and so we have tried to make it a point to pray together before he leaves and then I will try and pray with the kids on the days that he does work. Then on the weekends, this family morning prayer time is special and impactful and an opportunity for my husband to lead us spiritually in that way.

You can pray at the breakfast table or pray before coming downstairs in the morning. 

I do recommend doing it at the beginning of the morning because as the day goes, well – we all know how busy it can get!

A Short Family Morning Prayer

Lord, thank you for this day. Thank you for our family, our home and all of the blessings you have poured out on us. We commit our day to You and ask that Your Spirit would come upon us, guide us and direct us and give us the strength we need to do Your will. Open our eyes to the opportunities before us to share Your love and to love others as we are called. And we pray that You would cast out the enemy’s lies or schemes on this day. We pray this in Jesus name, Amen.

Family Morning Prayer for Direction

Lord, guide us in this day. We commit our ways to You. Lead us by Your Word and Your Spirit. Show us how we can do Your will. We acknowledge that You are good and You are sovereign. You have good things planned for us today. Show us how we can do those good things. In Jesus Name, Amen.

Lord, we thank you for Your victory over the enemy and over evil. Thank you for the promise that You have overcome. We praise You for Your sovereignty and goodness. We surrender our hearts and our hurts to You this morning. You care for each one of these things on our minds. Fill us with your Holy Spirit right now. Strengthen us to stand firm in Your power and to fight the good fight. We pray that, in Your Name, Satan would flee. We choose to resist the lies and schemes. We choose to put on the Armor of God and do battle with You, Lord.  In Jesus Name, Amen.
